LSU grabs 5-star Simmons

The LSU basketball team has been on a recruiting roll recently, pulling in recent commitments from 2014 standouts Elbert Robinson and Jalyn Patterson.

Simmons is the first pledge to LSU's 2015 class

On Monday, there came even bigger news for the future.

Five-star Ben Simmons, ranked as the No. 1 small forward in the 2015 class, committed to LSU following his unofficial visit to Baton Rouge this past weekend.

"I would like to announce I have committed to Louisiana State University," Simmons tweeted. "I'm happy to be part of the LSU family."

Simmons, a native of Melbourne, Australia, is LSU's first commitment for 2015, which pushed the 247Sports class ranking up to No. 3 overall.

At 6-foot-8 and 190 pounds, Simmons is ranked by the 247Composite as the No. 6 overall prospect in the class. The Montverde Academy standout is also ranked as the No. 1 prospect in Florida.

Simmons chose LSU over a double-digit offer list that included Duke, Kansas, Ohio State and Florida.
