Five-star safety Edward Paris, Jr. has been on the brink of giving the LSU staff some good news for several weeks and on Monday he got their week off to a great start.
Edward Paris, Jr. made the call on Monday
Paris, the nation's No. 2-ranked safety and No. 9 prospect overall according to 247Sports, went public with his decision to commit to LSU on Monday.
He told 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Keith Neibuhr that there were many factors that led to his decision to select the Tigers over a number of offers from the likes of Texas, Florida, Alabama, and many others. One of those factors was the respect he has for head coach Les Miles.
“He’s hard on every player of his and every recruit,” Paris said. “He doesn’t tell recruits what they want to hear. He tells them what they need to hear, and I respect that a lot.”
Paris lived in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Crescent City so in a sense he is returning home to play his college football.
He has been to LSU many times over the last three years and says there is something special about the place.
“It’s always felt like home,” he said. “It’s an amazing life and an amazing fan base. I went to the Alabama game and that was a game they lost. Even after the game the fans were still in the stands and still there for the players and coaches. I like how they are with the team through thick and thin. I like that a lot about that place. It’s real special.”
There has been some debate as to whether Paris would slide in at corner or end up at safety when he gets to the college level. However, he says there is only one place LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond has talked to him about and it is at cornerback.
“I feel like I would fit in great,” he said. “They recruit players like me with my length and it means a lot to me that they have always said corner. They recruit guys like Morris Claiborne and Patrick Peterson, who have my height, and they turned them into great players. I think they can help me get to the same level that those guys are at now.”
Geaux247 will have more on this huge commitment for the Tigers soon.
