John Battle caught the attention of LSU's staff after a big junior season in Florida
After touring a handful of schools this summer, 2014 Sunshine State defensive back John Battle ended his process and announced his decision to head to Baton Rouge for college.
"I am committed to LSU," Battle said during a video interview with SFHSSports. "It's LSU, baby."
Battle announced his decision on SFHSSports.com, a South Florida-based website geared towards covering prep sports in the area.
"I just have a great relationship with Coach Corey Raymond, and we had some great times when I was up there," Battle said. "Just hanging out with Les Miles, he's a very great coach and has a drive to win. That's something I want to do."
Battle said LSU's place in the SEC and reputation for defensive backs helped push the Tigers over the edge.
"That's big boy football," Battle said. "It doesn't get better than the SEC. I'm ready for it ... DBU."
Battle and his family most recently visited LSU on June 10, one destination on a string of campus trips that also saw stops at USC, Louisville and Tennessee. He chose the Tigers over offers from Southern Cal, Louisville, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, South Florida, Arkansas and more.
"I just want to thank my mom and dad and my coaches for helping me with the decision and being there for me through thick and thin," Battle said. "We are excited and ready.
"I hope to go to LSU and do some big things there."
The commitment is LSU's 12th in the 2014 class, and Battle is the third defensive back into the group, joining Texas tandem Edward Paris and Chris Hardeman. Mississippi's Devin Voorhies is a two-way standout who could also be tabbed as a defensive back in the class.
