Martin decided to stay home and play at LSU

On Thursday, Jarell Martin - Louisiana's No. 1 basketball prospect for the 2013 class - announced his decision to stay home for college and play for LSU.

"I went to games last year and saw games weren't that packed," Martin said. "I just want to bring that back."
This is awesome to hear. I think with the buzz surrounding the team already, the crowds will come back. I may make a few trips from NOLA to check them out.

Does anyone know if LSU is on track for the best basketball recruiting class we've ever had? And is this the highest ranked player to ever go to LSU?

I don't know what recruiting rankings were like back then, but we've landed guys like Rudy Macklin, Chris Jackson, & John Williams in the past and I'm pretty sure all of them were pretty highly sought after recruits.

Yeah, I think Jackson and Shaq were both considered the #1 recruit in America in their respective classes. Stanley Roberts was up there, as well. Not to mention Pistol Pete.
More recently, Tasmin Mitchell was ranked #20, Glen Davis #13, and Anthony Randolph #12 on Rivals.

Good info on those guys. Couldn't remember how highly recruited Shaq was, spending a lot of time overseas in a military family. We've really had a lot of good players come through Baton Rouge when you look back at some of the guys who played in the Dale Brown era. Not to mention the history of LSU basketball including 3 of the top 50 all time guys in Petit, Maravich & Shaq. Really enjoyed following LSU basketball during the 80's & early 90's.

I think the style of play will bring the fans back and the recruits. It's not that we lost with Trent. It;s how we lost. That product he put on the floor was unwatchable. It just wasn't exciting. I know Johnnie will get us were we wnat to be becaust this is his dream job. So far we know he can recruit, I hope his coaching talents are just as good. Way to go JoJo.
