Second-ranked LSU (4-0) plays host to BYU (2-2) and Southeastern Louisiana (3-1) this week in Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers meet BYU at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Saturday, and LSU faces SLU at 7 p.m. Friday.
JaCoby Jones leads LSU with two homers
In addition, BYU will face Southeastern Louisiana in Alex Box Stadium at 1 p.m. on Friday, and the teams will also meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Admission will be free to both BYU-Southeastern Louisiana games. The stadium will be cleared after each game, and fans will be re-admitted to the LSU games with the proper ticket.
LSU opened the 2013 season in Alex Box Stadium with a three-game sweep last weekend of Maryland, and the Tigers defeated Lamar, 8-1, on Tuesday night.
"We definitely have our hands full over the next three days with BYU and Southeastern," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "They both present a number of challenges, so we'll have to play at our best to beat them. I've been pleased with the way we've played to start the season, and we're looking to make more progress against two outstanding ball clubs."
LSU sophomore centerfielder Chris Sciambra leads the Tigers with a .583 (7-for-12) average and a .706 on-base percentage. Junior third baseman JaCoby Jones is batting .444 (4-for-9) with two homers, three RBI, six runs and a .667 on-base percentage. Senior leftfielder Raph Rhymes, the nation's leading hitter in 2012, is batting .357 (5-for-14) with two runs scored.
The Tigers are batting .297 as a team and have outscored their opposition, 28-5, through four games. The LSU pitching staff has a sterling 0.75 ERA, having allowed just three earned runs in 36 innings.
Sophomore right-hander Aaron Nola (1-0) will start for the Tigers on the mound Thursday versus BYU. He was brilliant in Friday's season opener, firing 6.2 shutout innings against Maryland, allowing two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. The nine Ks was just one shy of Nola's career high of 10 strikeouts set last season in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
Nola will be opposed on Thursday by BYU right-hander Desmond Poulson (1-0), who fired a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts against Northern Colorado last Friday in the Cougars' season opener.
BYU is led at the plate by junior infielder Adam Law, who is batting .429 (6-for-14) with three RBI and four runs.
LSU junior right-hander Ryan Eades (0-0) will start Friday's game against Southeastern Louisiana. Eades gave the Tigers a quality start in Game 2 against Maryland on Saturday, limiting the Terrapins to no runs on six hits in 6.1 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
SLU will counter on Friday with senior left-hander Jordan Hymel (0-0), who allowed three earned runs on six hits in five innings last Friday in the Lions' season opener versus Tennessee-Martin.
The Lions are led at the plate by senior outfielder Harry Slade, who is hitting .600 (9-for-15) with one double and two RBI.
