Neville (La.) cornerback Laurence Jones will be one of the most sought after defensive backs in the 2014 class.
Jones, who is already ranked the No. 3 safety and No. 21 prospect overall in our national Top 100, has early offers from LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oregon, Stanford and Oklahoma.
Many more offers will come Jones’ way as he heads into his junior season, and that’s a guarantee.
College coaches love his size (6-2/205) and the fact that he does things at corner that guys with his physical stature do not normally do.
After seeing him in numerous settings last season, one thing that really stood out that you will not see on paper is that he has a high football I.Q.
You expect him to be physical, and he is, but you wouldn’t expect to see Jones consistently running routes better than small, speedy slot receivers. He does and he also has enough speed and loose hips to turn and run with fast guys on go routes and post patterns.
There is going to be some debate as to whether he can stay at corner in college due to his size, but Jones is adamant about keeping his body in check so he can stay out on an island. Improving his ball skills and hip movement will help him achieve that goal.
But regardless of where Jones ends up at on the next level, one lucky school will be getting a terrific prospect.
