Stokes ready to contribute at TE

Logan Stokes

If Jacobs doesn't return, Stokes will be one of four TE's on the LSU roster

Logan Stokes arrives in Baton Rouge on Friday afternoon and enrolls in classes at LSU over the weekend. The JUCO signee talks with Geaux247 about his immediate future.

    • What are the chances he becomes a FB considering we dont have one behind Copeland and he's a senior next year? I think he has the most upside there, because gah, we really dont need another tiny OT.

    • The kind of kid you want in your program. Not the best talent but sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders, good leader, and hard worker. A great blocking TE isn't sexy but it can do wonders for your offense.

We do have two fullbacks behind Copeland, just not scholarship fullbacks.

Connor Neighbors is 5'11" 236lbs and will be a junior next year. He was Copeland's backup this year and performed pretty well when called upon. He's not the battering ram that Copeland is, but I think he's a solid lead blocker.

Stephen Scardina is 5'11" 270lbs and will be a RSF next year. A lot of people point to him as the likely successor to Copeland at some point as a punishing lead blocker, but I've never seen any film of the kid to know what kind of athlete he is.

I know about both the walk ons, but we usually have a scholarship guy there as well.

    • With Logan, Travis, Dillon, and Desean Smith, the TE position is in very good hands. I don't expect Nic Jacobs back, and that is a loss, for sure. But I don't see moving Logan to FB as we need all four guys to play the TE position. I like this prospect a lot, and I'm glad he's committed to LSU!

    • It is very impressive that he has never played TE before JUCO and that school has no TE coaches. He had to learn how to play the position by watching tape and still wound up the #5 TE prospect in all of JUCO. This guy has a very high ceiling and may turn out to be an excellent TE for us once he does learn how to properly play that position. I'll take a raw guy with high upside over a polished guy who is already a finished product any day. He is probably the most overlooked guy in this class so I hope he turns into a gem.

    • Love his attitude and upside. He's sure got the desire to get better and seems to be very, very coachable. If his athletic ability matches that then he will be a good one. We need him to develop very quickly........

Getting Stokes in for the spring is big because LSU will need some help there until DeSean Smith arrives and gets bigger and stronger.

I'll be anxious to see how much weight Smith adds when we do our "Getting to Know" piece right before they report in June.
