First of all, I am not trying to fool anybody. Other networks use their own computer formula which factors in a number of data points when determining the "score" for the team ranking. Still others do it subjectively with analysts deciding where the various classes rank, so it's not based on data at all. It's a distinctly different thing than prospect rankings and ratings being fed into a formula to determine an industry composite rating for players and then us feeding that number into another formula.
We aren't using someone else's product and calling it our own. This is our product. I don't see how you can think any differently. It's not like we aren't out there rating players just like the others.
We don't see it as tarnishing the work we do. We see it as enhancing the experience for readers/users. If we were completely replacing the 247Sports rankings or not counting them at all, etc., I could see your point.

-I don't know where you are getting "hope of being mentioned" from. We are mentioned plenty and with the addition of two popular recruiting analysts from Rivals in the last 60 days and one more on the way, we aren't hurting for good press. We did this for fans. Honestly, you guys just mention whatever site has your prospects the highest. It is time to develop some sort of standard for the good of the industry. It's not some PR ploy.
-We are getting our rankings back on the commit list to display prominently. On the player page, our rankings are displayed at the top with the 247Composite below. I really would be more understanding had we just eliminated our recruiting team and relied on everybody else, but that's not the case.
-You don't pay for rankings anywhere. It's free content here, on Scout, on Rivals, on ESPN and anywhere else.
-Again you aren't paying a dime to look at rankings anywhere on any network, so it's unclear to me why that would impact your decision to read Sonny and Shea's V.I.P. content and the other content around the 247Sports Network.
-Ask anyone in this business and they will tell you the last think I am, Gerry Hamilton is and anyone else is unsure of our ratings. I think it's quite the opposite. If we were unsure of our ratings, we would not have released a 2014 Top 100 months before anyone else. If we were unsure of our ratings, we would not have guys like Dorian Johnson at five stars and Kelvin Taylor as the top running back in the country. Jonathan Allen wouldn't be a top 10 prospect because we would be afraid to go against the grain. Looking back, we would not have rated Robert Woods ahead of Kyle Prater in the 2010 class, etc.
-Also, I will say this again, you aren't paying for rankings. Rankings are free content available for the masses on each and every network. You are paying for us to come on your site and break it down for you, you are paying for Sonny and Shea and the excellent content they provide and you are paying for the overall experience.
-We are in the process of getting the 247 ratings/rankings displays back on the commit lists for you guys to see.
How is giving weight to inferior components enhancing anything about our experience?
GET AT ME
We don't see it that way. We obviously have plenty to brand ourselves on given our robust team site offerings, proven evaluation team and prospect rankings (which I am still going to emphasize is still in tact- in fact, we re-ranked today and Anthony Jennings is now up to four stars), the best recruiting database and mobile site in the industry and so forth and so on.
The composite is simply another feature. We are using it in the team rank to get a better, more accurate team rank.
Again, fans are going to agree with whatever of the networks rank their prospects higher and have their team highest. That's just how it is. We want to tie it all together and paint a more pure picture.
Also, you can say what you want about other networks being valid or not. We've done studies on this and researched this. Everybody has their hits and misses and is really about the same when it comes to rankings and ratings for the past decade. Of course, we think we are better, but time will tell. 247Composite will help us determine that.
- If you are sure of your ratings, then what value is ranking teams based upon OTHERS'? If the other has a kid rated higher, the composite will skew him higher than your own. If the other has a kid rated lower, the composite will skew the ranking lower than YOU believe. So, what is this "value" that is being provided?
- I am PAYING for this site / service because I value the information provided...including the rankings. My PAY helps to fund that 'department', so save me the "that is free" nonsense. Without the pay side, you folks aren't providing this "free" information (at least not for long)
- Thank you for getting the 247 rankings back up. That is all most of us have asked. We aren't bothered by EXTRA info. We are bothered by REPLACEMENT info.
I appreciate your kind words about 247Sports.
I think some of you guys are missing the fact that our rankings (not the composite) are factored into the team rankings as well on an equal basis, so it's not like someone else is driving the bus. It's also the same rankings formula that we previously had, we are just counting a different number, one that we derived by using our formula for the composite.
So using someone else's work is a bit of a stretch. It's actually quite a bit of work for us. Not only are we evaluating more prospects than anyone else in the business, we also have to track where everyone else has prospects ranked.
We are going to add the 247Sports team ranking in addition to the composite.
Well it was never replaced, but I will admit it was hard to find.
We are also going to provide team rankings that use the 247Sports data only.
One point of clarification, we never took the 247Sports rankings out of the equation when it came to the team rankings.
I have found that most folks think inferior if they feel the prospects they have committed are not ranked high enough and superior if they are.
For example, Rivals has Derrick Green the No. 1 RB in the country. Ohio State dropped him. That fan base thinks inferior. Alabama isn't taking him. Inferior. Clemson is now full after taking a player they like better. Inferior. Michigan looks like it will land him. They obviously are calling him the No. 1 back in the country
Now do I agree with you that we have the best rankings/ratings? Absolutely. I just spent 26 out of 31 days in July on the road with my team making sure we do. We've made some great calls during our short time we've been here (Robert Woods, Tim Jernigan, Sammy Watkins, Anthony Johnson, etc.), but for the purposes of ranking recruiting classes, we feel like an industry standard is a great way to look at it.
With that, this is all about you guys (the fans). If you want to view team rankings based just on how 247Sports sees it, then you've got it. It's done!
Thank you for your response. If this is the case, I'm happy. Afterall, 247Sports' rankings is the ranking system I value the most.
I view inferior the sites that don't/won't devote the needed sources to the services they sell. How many guys scout LA for espn? Scout has maybe 1, kind of
Thank you JC!! That is all most fans were asking for. I imagine they will just set it up like the individual players page where you can tab between composite and 247.
Perfect and it will continue to promote 247 as the leader of the pack while introducing a cool new concept that nobody else has!

And I tremendously value and appreciate that. We all do. Thanks for joining us here. Things are only going to get better and you guys have the two best in the LSU market in Sonny and Shea....by far.
Well, I am here for the writers, articles and inside scoop from Sonny, Shea and all the rest. I do not plan on leaving this site even if you rank my beloved Tigers dead ass last in team rankings!!
I am here because 247 gives the best analysis of recruits that I can find. As long as I can still see your individual and team rankings then I am happy. I will ignore the composite rankings as I don't find them to enhance my experience whatsoever. I may be in the minority but I don't care if the other sites have LSU #1. I DO NOT VALUE THEIR OPINION OR ANALYSIS! I am not here to have sunshine pumped up my ass! I would be giving you the same exact feedback if the new composite rankings had come out with LSU #1.

You just got upgraded by me. I don't like these arrows - they're an invisible critique and more like a popularity vote.
Voice of reason. I'm here for the news; I don't need it sugar coated or recruit ratings inflated.
I wonder about bias, and big market, and big daddy, like Fox, Yahoo, and so on.
I like that 13-0 and would love to see another soon.
JC, no offense but the composite is a terrible idea.
It's pretty telling when you don't even know how the algorithm works...judging by the main sites we visit as fans (Scout, Rivals, and 247) - the composite ranking is lower than all three of the before mentioned website's independent individual ranking.
Considering this data - what other sites is the algorithm drawing upon?
I see this as a ploy to better provide coverage as 247 does not have to contribute it's manpower to cover the less relevant schools.
While this may be a good business move for the bottom line it takes away from the analysis we believe your site best provides.
Louisiana will always be under-served on a national level for several reasons: 1) the majority of the state is "rural"...you have to really go off the beaten path to discover some of the true talent in the state (i.e why Boutte's and Patterson's composite ranking is much lower) 2) From a subscriber standpoint we do not provide as much volume as some of the other sites; therefore, less resources are contributed.
I have really enjoyed the content this website has provided thus far up until these rankings.
Shea and Sonny were excellent additions. I followed them closely on Scout and these guys run circles around Mike S and others.
I hope that you reconsider the composite rankings...it dilutes 247's expert analysis and takes away from your company's contribution...in the end all you are doing is presenting avg data from a bunch of avg sites...
Time to let this one die peeps. JC has listened to our concerns and responded appropriately, several times. In the end it's not our business it's theirs and they are doing dam good. They are making changes that we requested (adding back 247 Team Rankings) so lets just see how it pans out after they make the changes. No point of regurgitating the same thing over and over. And yes, I voiced my concern several times but it's becoming whiny.
Tiger, I wholeheartedly agree! The season is almost upon us and two-a-days will soon separate the men from the pretenders.
I will count my blessings if we do not start this season with the ignomious start that we had last year.
Still watering down the product which is 247, makes zero sense! I'm on mobile 100% of the time and have no idea what I'm looking at now. 247 needs to keep their rankings seperate from other sites. Composite rankings are cool, but should not be first thing I see when looking at team rankings and player rankings..
