He has looked great, but past evidence shows it may be a mirage...
As the competition will go up some, Stringer's 3 point shooting will get further away and more erratic, hence a drop. The kid has some good talent, just is so small and developed his 3 point shot a little too far away IMO.
Paul Mainieri = 328-135 ovr (70.8%), 119-89 SEC (57.2%), 21-10 NCAA (67.7%), 3 CWS App., 1 National Title
He's a liability on defense when he's on the court no matter if he's hitting or not. Offense doesn't appear to be a huge issue thus far for this team. I know they're playing way more open than they did under Trent so naturally there will be more points scored for us and against us, but the half court defense is still atrocious.
Andre hasn't been as bad on defense as in years past. He has quick hards, works through screens well, and has a knack for tipping balls. His offensive production has been great thru 9 games. He has been an important piece to LSU's start.
I think this is just wondering if he can finally put together a full season. He has his limitations, but overall, he has been one of our more important players over the last 3 seasons. Whether he can continue at his current pace is still to be seen.
I think he's too small to guard any 2 in SEC play and his one-on-one defense is terrible...his feet are too slow on defense.
I hope he can continue because so far we have definitely needed him.
This is SEC basketball. Even with the built in favoritism the conference will get what? 4 maybe 5 NCAA bids? Stringer isn't exactly going to be competing against high quality 2 guards in this crap for conference. He will be fine.
He wasn't last year. We had major defensive issues when he and Hickey were on the floor together.
I think it's hard to say we had majof devensive issues with Hickey and Stringer on the court last year when we were a top 30 NCAA defense. Hickey was 1st in SEC in steals and Stringer was 12th. While they both are small, Stringer has some major hops and is much quicker than you give him credit for.
He is short. That is a fact. There are people who can elevate over him, but in the end I think he is a quality player. He was just named LSWA Player of the week. He is less of a liability on defense than Turner was last season who was slow (tall but slow). Stringer isn't slow.
Never ideal to have a pair of 5-9 guards at any level of basketball save perhaps low classification high school, but those guys weren't the reason LSU was a lower level team in a lower level conference. I believe the bigger issue was a complete lack of athleticism amongs the wing players. Ralston Turner couldn't guard anyone. Add JOB3 being out of shape and Hamilton being a marshmallow defensively.
