I guess my thoughts on this are....why do we care about rankings. In the top 10 it's negligible and arbitrary anyway 1-10 for the most part. As long as you arent much lower than 10th it shouldn't matter.
LSU is obviously recruiting at a high level over the last many years regardless of rankings.
We arguably have at present:
Top WRs in the SEC
Heisman runner up DB
Best Safety in nation (Reid)
Arguably best Secondary
Point being, rankings are great but why do we really care. And I know that recruits look at that ranking and want to play with other great players, but we get our share of grey players.
I for one am not worried anout rankings. I love the 247Composite. It's a great resource.
That's all I can think of for now.
Sorry for the mini rant.

A few things:
1. I don't like the composite rankings; as long as ESPN is in the mix, at least.
2. I think we all worry to much about stars and rankings; myself included!
3. The most important thing I've learned, THIS site takes us seriously; and it sounds like they ALWAYS will. TOS, not so much!!!
"It's my hometown, and that's big for me," Henry said. "It's about playing for the home team in front of family
"My problems with the whole star system rating is probably the same as many people but maybe I am alone on this....We see LSU or ( insert your team here) with a lets say an 11th team ranking . We came in second last year and are ranked first in polls this year."
I don't think 247 had ranking in 2009, but for Rivals the #1 class in 2009 was Alabama. The #2 class was LSU FWIW.
Obviously you have to take the rankings with a grain of salt. People need to realize, its not an objective fact, like the distance to the moon, but a projection. Teams that consistently have top 5-10 classes will consistently be in contention.
Based on what Lucky said, that sounds right. The question I have is how much will it change if some of the players we have get a boost during their Sr seasons. Seems like we have a couple of guys : Pocic, Rettig, Boutte, White perhaps some others that could move up, plus if we add P Willis, T Williams, it should give us a bump. Still, I like this class some guys that could be key players in a title run with the monster class we hope to get in 2014.
Landing Willis would give us a pretty good bump.
Lucky, you guys can have me but I don't come cheap. I'll have my Agent contact your people...
I am not as concerned with the team rankings but I can understand why some people are. Last year our rankings suffered when we lost out on LC, Kiel, Torshiro and that Guard who signed with Auburn. Those were some high scoring players in individual rankings. Same thing here. We have a tremendously deep class but we lack star power with not having 5 star players. The 5 star may not help but the corresponding .9800 that they bring with them would help.
Some fans got Scout to rate J Landry as a five star last year. He didn't live up to that billing but he was hurt and RR was not going to sit in favor of him. This year we will see him earn that rating. As you all know, recruiting is such an imperfect science. our team rankings will go up this fall as kids like Jennings and Rettig tear it up in their leagues. JMO.
24/7, I am here to stay!!!
Lucky, thanks and I would like to add that if you all removed the ESPN rankings, I could live with it. ESPN simply has NO BUSINESS being in this thing. They are awful and do little homework.
Thanks for the support.
