Looks like it! HUGE pickup. No chance Deng signs anymore. This really makes this class special.
Who is the black kid with the shaved head sitting on the end of LSU's bench. Looks to be about 6'8" or so. He's not on the roster so I assume he's a transfer. TIA
I believe you're talking about John Odo. He's a 6'10" C.
Disappointed we won't have a guy named Deng Deng on our team.
This is an absolutely huge get for LSU. He was visiting and being courted by some other big-time schools. It's evident this staff, from Jones to Kirby to Patrick, can really recruit.
"I guess you've just gotta find something you love to do and then... do it for the rest of your life." - Max Fisher
Yea Odo is the first member of the 2013 class to sign. Won't be able to play till next year but having him in the system early is very good for him. He has already gotten pretty close to the team (I see him cracking jokes with other players all the time) and looks like he can get some good work in under coach Jones.
He is listed at 6'10" like Oauron said.
Pretty pumped about this commitment. I think it really fills out the class nicely. Malone may not be an immediate difference maker, but with his abilities and physical attributes, he has a very high ceiling.
He was standing eye to eye with Ludwig last night. I don't think he's 6'10", but he looks extremely long. Hopefully he can be shot blocker that we need and of course another rebounder.
I hate to get off subject, but I wanted to ask you if you still thought this team would be lucky to get to 5 SEC wins? Im still crossing my fingers we can get at least one more... (Sorry for being a jerk, but Im in a great mood on LSU Hoops)
I always thought of Darcy as a girl's name but i guess it isn't...
I saw Malone's video and other stuff. He is pretty athletic for his height and hopefully he has the mental makeup to be a physical player. I am hoping he get's time with O'Bryant (JOB needs to stay in school anyway) in practice to learn the physicality needed in the D1 arena.
Regards to All,
What did you think at this time two weeks ago after the lost to UGA and USC and were 0-for in SEC play? Did I call you out?
They've been playing well. I didn't see the State or the UK game, but I heard they played well against UK. Still don't think they are a 10+ SEC win team like you said...they'll be somewhere in the middle of our predictions. I'm glad to see they're improving and still believed in the coaching staff even when things were bleak. Malik Morgan is going to be a star and Tuba has zero skill but has been playing with toughness. He gave us valuable minutes last night when JO3 was in foul trouble in the first half. Once again, did the 3 things they have to do in order to win...shoot well from the arc, play disruptive on defense, and keep JO3 on the floor (he sat a bit in the 1st but I'm pretty sure he played all but a minute or so in the 2nd.
I was thinking 8 wins. Hoping that's about right. I still think there is a shot at more, but I feel pretty comfortable about our chances of getting to 7 or 8 wins. Didn't mean to call you out, just asking if they changed your mind up to this point. We are all friends here.
Big pickup, he is raw but a 7 footer who can run will be huge for CJJ. Has a jumper, can post up. Will be a good player down the line. Needs to get a profile on 247!
I do hope this helps immensely for Dante Exum and Ben Simmons. For those that dont know much about either, they are 5-star type prospects for 2014 and 2015.
Paul Mainieri = 358-147 ovr (70.9%), 136-100 SEC (57.6%), 21-10 NCAA (67.7%), 3 CWS App., 2 SEC Titles, 1 National Title
This is pretty much it in a nutshell. They played a really nice game against Kentucky. They seem to play to the opponent's capabilities except for UF which is alone at the top in this league this year).
LSU picked it up in SEC play once Hickey paid attention to business and stopped getting put on the bench by coach and also as JOB III's high ankle injuries started truly getting better. JOB is playing better and smarter on defense with less silly fouls.
I am definitely impressed with Morgan. He is getting better each game. He has smoothness and he has pretty good hops for a big guard. He is getting called for some ticky tack hand check stuff, but he will learn the positioning required and move those feet better on D. He is going to be a force to deal with for opponents IMO next year for sure.
We get exactly what we need from Tuba, he is limited by lack of athleticism, but he shows intelligence on the court and normally plays within himself which at his size allows him to give the team an occasional boost while importantly giving JOB some rest..
I love Coleman's hustle and long for next year when he can play further out and not in the 4 position. He is forcing the ball under the goal because he has to play down there, and the bigs are stuffing him a lot. We will see more nice running floaters and some much better quality shots from him when we get a legit four/five to share the floor and let Shavon free to manipulate for better shooting opportunities. He is going to be tough to deal with next year for opponents as well.
He is coming along very slowly, but Hammick has finally decided that, yes, he can score by slashing to the basket. Need to see more of it. He is very much a freshman getting used to D1. Needs to improve defense and his confidence on court.
I have been frustrated in the past years and he still goes cold sometimes, but overall pleased with Stringer. All in all he is benefiting from CJJ's offensive style as much as anyone on the team. When he gets a rhythm, he can shoot the rock pretty well and Hickey and Carmouche can get the ball to him enough in rhythm to allow him to have his best year as a Tiger. Stringer really deflates teams when those 3's fall. Corralling him and Hickey both from killing a team outside is REALLY going to show when people have to play further in next year to defense our sizable front court.
Hickey is rapidly becoming a major force at point. Shoots the ball better than I ever thought he would. A really, really nice D1 guard and he should be getting some All Sec vote consideration if he finishes the season like this.
LSU is a hot cold team shooting the ball. They can go so cold for a long time but still make a game of it. They are fortunate that only the better teams have enough to hold them off when they make a run. Their worst games were Aubie and UGA. They should beat those two teams, even though UGA has also played better lately and are hot.
They can really press well and the entire team takes it's queue from the way Hickey is so good on defense and fuel the pressure on the ball.
The press makes this struggling shooting team fun to watch and I can say for certainty that while this year is a growth year, it is a promise of a very solid year next year and the one thereafter. The incoming class is absolutely one that will fill in the gaps this '12-13 team has.
They are going to place some knots on more than one decent team's head next year.
This program is going to turn it around very quickly.
It's about damn time....
