Leaving destruction in his wake
From the blog Dr. Saturday: Redlands (Calif.) East Valley High School and USC coach Lane Kiffin are at odds thanks to a deferred scholarship. Defensive end Kylie Fitts, a four-star recruit Rivals ranked seventh nationally at his position, was committed to USC and took extra … Continue reading →
How long will it take for the football world to realize Lane Kiffin is a fraud? He's never accomplished anything as a head coach. Kids want to go to USC because of its past reputation, not because of Lane Kiffin. I look for them to get the hammer again before long, just like they did because of their former Head Snake, Pete Carroll. If they had been most anyone other than USC, they'd not even be playing FB now.
Before you bash Kiffen on this, recall that LSU did the same thing to Patrick Miller last January. It's a numbers game. If someone doesn't graduate or leave for the NFL as expected, programs can be leftshort on early enrollee spots.
I'm still pissed about that.
This is a unfortunate outcome for Fitts.
If USC is his life dream, maybe he should wait it out. It's a recruiting game of making the numbers work. LSU is sweating out whether or not four or five commitments qualify. They've offered greyshirts, it seems, to two other players who would be an asset to this class. One or two of these could get schollies soon.
Kiffen has done a piss poor job at USC and he won't be cut any slack for any decision including this one on Fitts. I don't see him succeeeding at USC much less returning USC to days of old.
Kiffen left the Vol program in tatters - he's not a guy, in my opinion, who tells the truth or lifts kids up.
Glass houses and stones.........
Didn't that have something to do with J Lee not graduating like he was scheduled to do?
Was all over taking Kiel. Both were EE. No room for both. We tried to talk Miller's family into a grey shirt.
IMHO, it kind of serves us right. Miller would have been our third highest rated recruit too. With the injuries and defections we really needed him. Some might call it Karma.

I thought it was both. I thought when Kiel committed they were still expecting Jarrett Lee to graduate at mid-term and when he didn't it left us one spot short. Which is why it was double dagger when Kiel flipped at the last minute. We lost a 4* O-lineman and a 5* QB over that whole deal so if LSU is still being punished for asking Miller to take a grey shirt or wait till the fall, then Karma really is a bitch.
Different situation: Boy-Kiffin leaves programs in shambles--the Raiders, the Vols, pre-season #1 USC (finishing 7-6 w/loss to GaTech) to being late 90 minutes for the Sun Bowl Banquet (disrespect) & wearing sunglasses in the shade side of the field in El Paso, ;-)
He has a history of being a chump where Miller's kerfuffle was a one-off.
You got it right.
I have a feeling Baby Kiff's next destination will be either head coach at Notre Dame or the New England Patriots.

I can't say I have one iota of faith that will happen but I kinda enjoyed the idea.
Kiffmuffen? I'm still amazed he's employed at USC.
From Bleacher Report:
Fight on! Dozen or so Trojans involved in post-bowl altercation
Posted by John Taylor on January 16, 2013, 8:52 AM EST
A 2012 season that began with high expectations for preseason No. 1 USC was filled with nothing but deflating disappointment, littered with frustration both on and off the field throughout.
Reportedly, that frustration came to a head at season’s end.
According to Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News, 10-15 players were involved in a postgame “altercation” following the Trojans’ embarrassing Sun Bowl loss to Georgia Tech. The locker-room brouhaha, which wasn’t specifically described as physical by Wolf, came after a lethargic performance in which a sizable portion of the team seemed disinterested in the program’s first postseason appearance in two years and sleepwalked through the 21-7 loss to the seven-loss Yellow Jackets.
“It was one of the worst things I’ve seen in a locker room,” an unidentified player told Wolf in regards to the postgame scene.
Oddly enough, it was the younger players reportedly chastising the older ones that appears to be the impetus for the situation, with Wolf writing “some freshmen questioned the leadership of the team’s seniors and whether they gave 100 percent effort for the Sun Bowl.” Witnesses told Wolf that this questioning led to an argument that then escalated.
On the one hand, if it was indeed the freshmen lashing out against players, even veterans, half-assing it through a game, that would appear to bode well for the future of a Trojans football program mired in mediocrity under Lane Kiffin. On the other hand, it’s yet another check mark next to the box that reads “Program Out of Control Under Kiffin,” with those who want the current head coach to become the former head coach — and that number is growing — armed with yet another data point to make an argument that’s becoming easier by the day.
Kiffin will enter the 2013 season on the hottest of proverbial hot seats. Thanks to situations like the above that seem to invariably crop up with some degree of regularity when Kiffin’s in charge, it doesn’t appear there’ll be a cold front coming through anytime soon.
Wow, that's the first time I saw anything about this USC postgame inter-squad fight.
Can you imagine the Tiger fanbase stewing over a situation like this? It would make Shady's look like a Sunday School fart.
I appreciated the read, Ken.
