The Big Ten was vocal in its concerns over some new recruiting rules passed by the NCAA, issuing a statement last month on behalf of coaches and athletic directors asking for those rules to be halted. Conference leaders will get their wish.
The NCAA has announced that it will suspend the two most controversial proposals until its Board of Directors can review and modify them. Those proposed rules would have eliminated the limit on printed materials that could be sent to high school prospects and allow team officials other than the head coach or assistant coach the ability to recruit. Some schools had already started hiring staff members for the main purpose of recruiting.
The NCAA Board of Directors is scheduled to meet May 2, at which time it will consider these rules again.
Plenty of coaches and administrators outside the Big Ten had also expressed concerns about the ramifications of the new rules and a new recruiting arms race it might create. At least the NCAA was willing to listen to those concerns.

Honestly, I'm shocked that the NCAA pulled the trigger and suspended the rules. I think that if I had to pick my poison (the old recruiting rules v. these new rules), I would pick the old rules every single time.
Something has to be done but it is not deregulation.

Regards to All,
Kudos to the NCAA for revisiting this. How do you think those coaches feel that have already turned in their resignations to their respective employers thinking they had a sweet gig set up for August?
I concur Sonny...and as usual the methodical CLM did not jump the gun and start hiring people to continue the arms race. Doesnt look like the dust has settled at the NCAA.
As Mack Brown had alluded to....or whined about...Alabama had already jump started the process and was far ahead of the majority of FBS schools to take advantage of this.
I wonder what this means for Kevein Steele?
It's got to look bad for Bama who did jumpstart that process and now put some coaches in an odd position.
The NCAA does need to limit the printed material being sent. Sending a recruit 100 letters in one day is just stupid.
Should it be disallowed, it will be interesting to see how Bama lets the new hires go. It could turn ugly for them. I bet it will all be kept hush hush from the general public.
Imagine having your water or lights cut off because you missed a bill that was hidden in 100 letters from Ole Miss. I would be freaking furious.
Proud to support everything Louisiana
how is that bama's fault? The NCAA is the one responsible for this cluster #$%^

Hard to get your water turned off when each of those letters is lined with cash.
This is true...
If you could draw up the way you would want this to work out what would your plan be?
1. Limit the number of "scouting personnel" that can be hired.
2. Reinstate the contact rules.
3. I might be ok with contacting juniors IF they have an early signing period, but I think it should later than July 1st.
4. I would completely eliminate the mailing of any printed material.
While I'm pretending to control the NCAA...
5. The NCAA should be a nonprofit.
6. Hire more people to investigate rather complain that it's too much work.
7. Give Miami, USC, Bama and Urban Meyer the death penalty.
