Now I understand why there was even a mention of this out of Birmingham - NCAA rules mandate that the conference reviews it. Explains everything. So Mike Slime is traveling and can't meet with Steve Shaw to review it? That's convenient - SEC does not have video conferencing capability yet. I guess next week Shaw will be traveling and by then it will be too close to the holidays to meet. Let this chill over the holidays and it simply go away. The SEC office has NO integrity. Let's see if Slime applies it to next year's Virginia Tech opener and hopes that no one realizes Dial is a senior - who is going to call him on it ESPN? CBS? Seriously, my guess is you will not hear about it again or they will say "there is inconclusive video evidence that the player in question led with his head and not his shoulder and the play stands as called and Roll Tide!" Or "Alabama is so dominant and Nick Saban is such a good teacher of technique that it is just like the o-line pay - sometimes it looks like there is holding but that's just your eyes tricking you. He teaches his players not to hold and not to lead with their helmet so this could not be what it appears and Roll Tide!"
Whether Dial gets suspended for BCS Championship Game is up to SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, who has sat 2 players this season.
I don't hate often, but when I do, I prefer Alabama, USC or Notre Dame.
Official standing over the play should be suspended as well. That was a pretty tough no-call to take given the sensitivity the official's have had over less violent hits this year.
And, to add, not just "this year" but earlier in the game on a hit on McCarron.
"You can learn more character on the two-yard line than anywhere else in life." - Former LSU Coach and AD Paul Dietzel
Does anybody remember the end of the South Carolina game when Craig Loston was flagged for leading with his head in his UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT to hit a South Carolina receiver??? If the SEC refs are going to call a personal foul on a whiff, then they deserve to be taken to task for a no call on the Murray hit.
This hit was blatant, and I couldn't believe that there was not a flag. Oh wait, that was a Bama player, wans't it. The official happened to be looking the other way and didn't see it. But we are committed to throwing the flag on every other team, and on every down there must be at least one flag thrown per play. But this is now a game controlled by referees and they are the stars. We pay very good money to have refs see how often they can get on TV and have their voices heard. I saw a ref the other day get on the mic and announce that they play was an incomplete pass! Total bedlam!!
This is on AD's to grow some and stand up to the Bama machine. Enough is enough. Remember the tackle of Jefferson with a helmet to the chest that could have seriously injured him? Photo of the hit with ref watching was posted on all LSU forums.
