It's been well documented that Larry Porter was trying to make some inroads in Louisiana, more specifically New Orleans. Well, Porter has offered two more guys in John Curtis DB Mattrell McGraw and St. Aug DT Courtney Garnett.
That brings the total number of offers in NOLA from the Longhorns to eight off the top of my head in the St. Aug foursome of Garnett, Leonard Fournette, Jermaine Roberts and Joseph Paul. They've also offered Edna Karr's Speedy Noil and Gerald Willis and Anthony Jones reports an offer.
Expect to hear very soon that UT offers Kenny Young and Malachi Dupre from Curtis and would be surprised if they don't offer Terrence Alexander with the current trend.

DeCarlos Holmes is probably Porter's top handler since Willie Lyles got shut down.

I think most of these offers are come to camp offers but what happens to Porter once Mack gets fired?
Any chance porter really just wants to stick it to lsu
Yeah, he left to become a head coach of his alma mater. It's not like we fired him or pushed him out.

Porter and Les still have a great relationship and there are no hard feelings on either end. If LSU had a RB vacancy, Porter would be the first guy Les would call.
Porter owes everything to LSU.

McGraw and Garnett are really, really odd offers for Texas. Making "in roads" is one thing, but those are the kinds of offers I'd expect to see Ole Miss make a few years back. I'm not trying to knock those players but to offer them at this stage? At a place like Texas?
Seems odd unless they really feel taking those guys will help them get Young, Dupre, Fournette, etc. It won't, by the way.
I guess if LSU is taking Ed Paris and Tony Brown and possibly Brandon Simmons -- and A&M has Nick Harvey and Dylan Sumner-Gardner, then Texas needs to sign DBs from somewhere.
I think Porter is just doing his job for UT. Mack probably doesn't like that we have made inroads into TX lately and will likely sign the two top recruits from the Lone Star state. Turn about's fair play, as the saying goes. Top talent will always draw tons of attention.
Can Porter learn how to coach TE's? I think we could use him in that spot on our staff...
Proud to support everything Louisiana
This website says McGraw has offers from Oregon, Nebraska, Tennessee, UCLA, Michigan St., Arkansas, Okl St., etc. Is it such a stretch that Texas would offer him too?
I wouldn't go that far. He is obviously a pretty hardworking, intelligent, charismatic guy in his own right.
For the last 12-15 years, anytime Texas goes outside the state and offers a prospect, it's for only the bluest of blue chips and they compete with the likes of LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, USC, etc...not the schools you mentioned as having offered McGraw.
This is a change from what we've seen and it strikes me as peculiar and makes me think they're really seeing the affects of the last three seasons on the field while on the recruiting trail.
Now maybe they eval'ed both of these players and just love them, think they're sleepers, and want them. Always a possibility.
It amuses me greatly to see Texas accept itself as just another school now. They will soon find how badly this stuff can blow up when those early reach offers turn into early verbals.
"There are some reasons for this that we cannot get into right now."
I suspect that a lot of the new Texas offers are the kind that the kids can claim having, but are only good if they come earn it in camp this summer. Well, any kid who comes & really earns an offer at camp gets one. That's why the coaches invite specific kids in the first place. Nobody needs these fake "offers" for that.
I do think this will backfire on Texas because the best athletes in Louisiana will wonder what kind of people they will be playing beside given some of the kids they are seeing get early offers. Texas lacks the reputation Alabama & Saban have in Louisiana that is needed to pull this kind of stunt off. Mack Brown is totally clueless as to how to right the ship over there & it could hardly be happening to a more deserving team & fan base.
