Anyone watch Quarterman play where they have some notes to pass along?
He had 21 points on just 6 of 11 shooting (9 of 11 from the line, yes, zOMG a guy who can hit free throws! ) in only 26 minutes of play.
He also had 4 boards, 2 assists and 1 steal but a negative end had 4 fouls (in a game in which they called EVERYTHING though - 53 combined free throws in a 32 minute high school basketball game) which he had to sit for a little bit in foul trouble and 6 turnovers which wasn't good but he hasn't been turnover prone all season so I'd call that an outlier. He would have had 2-3 more assists but some of his teammates just made bad plays off of good passes by him.
Quarterman will definitely be our primary backup to Hickey at PG next year, doesn't seem to have a great jumper yet but knows how to go to the rim and has a sweet floater in the lane, which when you're 6'5 (As opposed to 5'11/5'9), you can definitely get away with. I dont know if I see him playing the "2" as much as I see us having 2 PGs on the floor at once at times with Hickey/Quarterman (playing 1 and 3). IMO, Quarterman is a 1 and 3 right now, similar to what Garrett Temple was for us. I'd like to see Quarterman develop a little more defensive intensity because he has the length to be a defender like Temple was for us. "Silky Smooth" is the best way to describe Quarterman's play.
He needs to add on some more weight but that's with most high school to college players, if I had to guess, he's probably about 6'5 160-170 right now. Think a shorter Chris Johnson in build basically.
Johnson-Sav is going to REALLY miss him as he was their driving force this year to their state championship. It was a back and forth game which was close until the 2nd part of the 2nd quarter when Quarterman dropped a quick 9 points in 2.5 minutes and Johnson-Sav took a 30-21 halftime lead which Savannah never got close again. It was clear who the best player on the court was yesterday, which is always something you look for in a "top 100" player nationally. I finally found out yesterday he averaged 19.5 points a game his senior year, up from 17.3 his junior year.

Announcers compared Quarterman's game to George Gervin, Sean Elliott, and Shandon Anderson. TQ fits Coach Jones's stle of play perfectly. Both love to get up and down the floor and TQ can play all three perimeter positions.
I dont see Quarterman as a 2 at all, without a jump shot it's tough to play the 2. He can be a 1 or 3 though. But at LSU that's what he'll be expected to play the most, the 3 in college is essentially just another taller guard. Quarterman can physically play the "2" but he doesnt have a 2's game at all IMO.
