A new era that will be 5-10 years to overcome what a few very bad people did. They can put JoPa behind them (finally....), and get on with life. A solid PSU football program is good for everyone.
redpemtion is part of the american culture and I for one hope they can get their dignity and their program back on track. it is still mind numbing what Paterno allowed, along with the people who ran PSU. the sanctions are warranted but I feel for the players. I wish them good fortune this year.
Not this guy. I might feel differently if the students would have acted like human beings or if the fans stopped worshipping JoePa, but as it now stands I don't see why anybody who isn't an alum should pull for them. I hope the PSU players don't suffer any injuries, but that's it.
I don't have a soft spot for them at all and ESPN's constant coverage and talk about it this morning makes me feel even more strongly about it. They got/get what they deserve. I feel somewhat bad for the kids that are there but as a whole, I have no sympathy for the fanbase or the university as a whole. They were as big a part of the bs that went on there as Paterno was. The fanbase would have more than happy to just sweep the whole thing under the rug and pretend it never happened. That tells me all I need to know.
Why? I have no problem loathing them.
I feel for the players I guess but I have heard and read postings from too many fans defending JoePa and what was going on up there to ever pull for that team.
My thoughts exactly jtmva. No remorse from the fanbase and alumni. Just pathetic excuses for Joe pa and the administration. They got what they deserved.

I don't always agree with Firny but tend to support his post. I completely agree that many PSU alumni and fans have reacted poorly. But don't think for a second if something similar happened here we wouldn't have a bunch of idiot fans saying the same kind of stuff. It's easy to think we are above that kind of reaction, but I don't buy it.
I think you can hate what happened at PSU and still support the players and coaches as they try to move forward. Not a kid on that team is to blame yet they all suffered because of the action and inaction of others.
Firmy that is a somewhat popular view....have you read the Pedo board?....there is no remorse or even acknowledgment that anything happened the way it was described in the report that the BOT approved. They are vehement in their defense of Joe. They should not play a down this decade much less have ESPN drool all over that sad situation for profit.
My question is this; if this was about your son and the organization that afforded the cover for it to happen over and over again, would you offer this same sentiment of a new era?
I would not and will not, they need to revisit the penalties and go back to the original suggestions and give them the death penalty. That is the only new era they deserve and if you want play football leave if not stay and go to class and shut up.
Sorry for the rant not personal except my sentiments toward Pedo State
No, we should not all be PSU fans today. They could have gotten the death penalty and I wouldn't have noticed.
"There are some reasons for this that we cannot get into right now."
I couldn't care less about Penn St. or their fan base! I didn't care for them before and I care even less now!
Ohio 24-Penn St. 14.........Ohio put up almst 500 yds on St.
I can see pulling for the players; they are innocent and you have to applaud them for sticking with the program and giving their best effort.
But I despise the University and refuse to watch their games or acknowledge their program in any way.
If you are a fan of Penn St. today then GTFO .... Im sorry but those players had a chance to leave .... its disgusting to me that Penn St. is even playing football today. Football should have been killed at that university for a few year after what that administration let go on there.
Sorry for the players and students but Penn St. will forever be a place where children were molested to me and nothing more.

Sorry firny can't agree
Wasnt aware of that but I guess my sentiments were more about the players. I guess we would think the sanctuons were too hard too, but I agree with the penalites. I'm a parent and i would be in jail right now.
I do feel for the players. Until the NCAA decides that the penalties follow the transgressors then nothing will change. The penalty should follow the coach and not stay behind with the institution and players who did no wrong. Mike Mauti is not complicit at all in what Sandusky and the administration allowed. The average Penn State fan did no wrong here.
A classic example is USCw and Pete Carroll. Pete is as guilty as the day is long for what happened at USC. He condoned it by not running a tight ship just as if he gave cash directly to players. Where is he now? He is not suffering at all for what he perpetrated there.
Booby Petrino is also guilty as shat!! I am not going to go into that In depth but the players are not to blame for him getting a little snatch from someone half his age. They are going to pay though, meanwhile Booby gets a year or two off then gets another 4 to5 million dollar a year job.
