Do we honestly think that if we don't go vertical or pass to the middle of the field that our opposition will just assume that we can't. Their going to keep a safety over the top regardless of what we do against an inferior team. That's the frustrating part about the play calling. Why not open it up a little and give them something else to worry about? I'm certain they already know we can run the ball and throw the hitch pass.
Damn Strong Football Team
I think the issue here is really an issue with how CLM believes an offense should be run and how you would want to see it run. I get that. I think we all know that we seem to have the tools to go vertical but Les chooses not to use them. Frustrating yes, but as long as we win I am not going to complain.
Let's keep it on topic in here guys.. I understand some have other views than the rest, but as long as we keep it civil, the discussions are always informed and good back and forth. Let's keep it that way.

Damn! Tigerbait.com part deux !!!!!!!!!!
Step off the ledge man. LSU played an inferior program so they probably ran an extremely vanilla offense. To say Bama is the best team in the country maybe correct, but what we do know is Bama and LSU are the best two teams in the country. I'd bet that had LSU played Michigan it would have been a similar score. I mean a Georgia directional school put up 21 on our defense last year, so I'm trying to say you don't show all your cards against north Texas. Not to mention for the players it's hard to get pumped up to play in games where 2nd and 3rd team off and def will enter the game in 2nd/3rd quarters.
Just realize that what your coach has been doing has been outstanding since taking over for CNS.

Yahoo sports apparently shares Firny's opinion. Check out todays sports page. Main feature is #2 Alabama and their win over Michigan. No mention of #1 USC. Go figure.... The media loves them even if we don't.

I honestly think that shot Mett took changed the whole passing game plan. It seemed after that LSU went more conservative with the quick passes and more or less leaned on the running game.
Na some new players in the fray, but maybe version 2.0
Michigan will lose 3 -4 games.
AJ McBrodie was 11-21 for less than 200 yds. How exactly is that going vertical or throwing all over the yard? Bama did what they always do to win...running, defense and turnovers. LSU does the same exact thing What are we crying about in this thread?
Thank God this forum has an ignore user function.
Chill out guys. First game against North Texas, enough said
Glad to see you have come over and are ruining another site. Good job. Please keep being the worse poster around.
yeah miles breeding undisciplined play has led him to 10 wins per year avg.. just pathetic!
You live in Alabama, you're surrounded by Alabama fans. We get it. Please stop posting the same mindless drivel 1000x after every game. Thanks.
"It's my hometown, and that's big for me," Henry said. "It's about playing for the home team in front of family
That is some funny stuff right there, Corner34!!! LOL!!!!
I came to Geaux 247 to hopefully get away from fanatics like Firny (as he was at Tigerbait) and engage with FANS. His drivel here is the same constant bitching, moaning, "I-Love-Nick" stuff that he spouted there. I don't doubt his passion as an LSU fan...just his real understanding of football and what he focuses on like his statement last year -- "I don't care if he wins 12 games, Miles should be fired"...or something like that.
The coaches focus should be our focus -- PROGRESS. Bama's preparedness for a top ten opponent today is more comparable to our preparedness against Oregon last year...not a plain vanilla offensive set that we ran against North Texas. I think our focus was right on tonight...when we went down field, we were successful. The focus on letting Mettenberger ease into the offense in live game action is the right focus...not comparing our game tonight against lowly North Texas to Bama's game against 8th ranked Michigan.
Most of the whiners and complainers like Firny don't understand that against an inferior opponent in the first game, you run vanilla plays and win with athleticism...which is exactly what happened tonight. Firny and his disciples just don't get it...and certainly don't appreciate what we did with ZERO quarterback talent the last couple years and they WON'T give our coaching staff due credit when the playcalling and Mettenberger's talent shine when it matters...and against North Texas, IT DID NOT MATTER!!
I think 5 or 6 passes down field with only one incompletion and one called back on a penalty is kind of working on a few things. That's more than we went down field with more inferior opponents last year...and ALL you need to do, isn't it? Why do you feel the need that we need to go down the field ten times or more when we proved we could on the 5 or 6 plays that we did do it on?? And why not run 5 or 6 bubble screens when they are playing ten yards off the line of scrimmage and we got at least 5 yards on each bubble screed except for one. I don't see the reason to gripe...I really don't. When Mettenberger did go down field, he looked great and it proved the point to future opponents that we can and we will!!!
Firny, I wonder if you really understand football at all...I think you are just an entertainment junky. From the words of our quarterback and what was obvious to any knowledgeable football fan -- "We really prepared to throw a lot of deep shots but unfortunately we didn't get to them," Mettenberger said. "They gave us some opportunities but we were running the ball so well. Why turn away from something when it's working."
And it's not arguing Firny...It's called "knowledge", "learning", "growth", and "understanding" so that we can enjoy football discussions amongst intelligent and informed football fanatics rather than hearing the drivel and drip of the Saban-Loving, Bama-Fearing, doomsday apocolyptics that tend to dominate the threads. And just like those on here who are like Firny that tend to be nihilists when we don't see Playstation/X-box offense and complain, I tend be an apologist and defend the process.
And yes Firny, I will hit the ignore button....

Please do not confuse the enjoyment of some critiquing how poorly the team played in a 27 point win by quoting facts....
Ding! Ding! Ding!
This man has got it right. You must coach football. I swear, I wish I could give you a prize. All that you said is true!
Before you go overboard about Bama...go back and look at the Sugar Bowl. Michigan beat VT but they gave up 377 yards to VT and only gained 184 yards. Statistically, this is roughly equivalent to what Bama did last night. VT just made too many mistakes and didn't finish but they looked very dominant against Michigan in that game. And VT was not even close to being a top team last year.
Don't get me wrong...Bama has another strong team and might be the best team in the country but I don't think you can base it on dominating Michigan. Michigan is just not in the same league as Bama...or LSU for that matter. I bet Michigan is not in the top 3 of a pretty weak Big 10 this year.
Great, great post Owban!!!! Well friggin said my Tiger brotha!!!
What does anyone have to apologize for?
By your own logic, the best coach in the NCAA coaches elsewhere so LSU is exactly where it belongs. Generally, we are supposed to lose to a team with better coaching, recruiting and preparation.
Just try to understand and accept your own logic. We are playing for 2nd so quit whinning about not being able to beat the best.
