just got back from the scrimmage
first off jacory washington of westlake is hurt and did not play. He is having pain in his hamstring and had an mri earlier this week. He was on the sideline though and playing around and didn't look like he was in much pain. Right now he is questionable for the jamboree next week. Once I see how much him play a couple times I will know more as far as how much his skills have improved, but as of right now he needs to get his ass in the okie drill every chance he gets if he wants to play TE on a pro style team. He defiantly has a better frame to add weight then Desean does. He is going to have to learn to play through some of the pain though but the kid has everything you want from a physical standpoint for a big time future TE.
Melvin Jones is a big ole boy. He did not play qb today strictly mlb. After watching the WM qb he will prolly be playing qb once the season roles around. Overall I thought he played alright,
Pros- size, speed, aggressiveness
Cons- footwork, reading plays
he tended to over run a few plays but his main problem is footwork...its horrible. He does hit like a ton of bricks though and he made a couple really big hits but they were 7-8 yards down field. He looked pretty good on drops but he got burnt twice while they were in a tampa 2 by the slot receiver over the middle. He has a ton of potential, but he is going to have a lot of work to do to get his footwork down. Once he does that I really believe he has the potential to be great in college.
Westlake also has another athlete for the 2014 class. Dunno the name but he is #7 and plays WR and QB. Kid has a lot of talent but he has zero chance to qualify for any school. And I mean zero unless he does a complete 180 in the classroom. He looked good and LSU was at the school this week to look at him, but I personally don't believe he is LSU caliber, more along the line of Southern MIss/SMU.
Westlake has a couple other prospects that will get FCS offers or lower tier FBS offers.
As far as the teams go both looked good. WM is a good QB away from being very very good as they have a ton of size, If Melvin does end up playing QB like expected I look for them to win their district and prolly make it to the quarters.
Westlake had a few starters out with injuries including washington and another really good athlete. If westlake doesnt have any injuries this year they could go really deep into the playoffs but they dont have much depth. They play barbe next week and that will tell alot more. They will give notre dame a run for their money for the district crown though if they stay healthy.
best sight on earth
I think Melvin Jones ends up at DT.
de maybe but he really is built perfect for mlb. no way he ends up a dt though. he doesnt have the frame to really add any weight, if anything he needs to loose alot of the baby fat he already has. He has huge legs but not overly broad shoulders. Before tonight i thought maybe he would grow into a DE but after seeing him up close I just cant see it.
He already weighs around 270
Much appreciated. I'm mapping out my trips around the state this weekend and will spend a couple of days in Lake Charles area. Definitely will be hitting up a game on Friday and hopefully Thursday and Saturday during that swing.

Sonny how was your trip last night?
I would enjoy seeing him get down to like 250 after being Moffitized and stay at MLB. He could be deadly at that position
He doesnt weigh that much, atleast from the looks of him. He needs to lose weight as much of that is bad weight.
Better give me a call so I can take you to lunch!
Nowhere in my contract does it say I gotta make a fool out of myself, am I right?
Great recap! I just got off the phone w Jacorey and will post an update here shortly.

Thanks for passing this along, 777. Being Melvin is such a young guy, I am hoping he can get to LSU, get coached up by the Chief at LB, get Moffitized, and become a beast. I like him at MLB a lot.
Spent three hours in locked down traffic trying to get through New Orleans with an accident and missed the entire scrimmage
You know it Brian
Great write-up. Keep them coming.
That sucks maybe next time will be better. Thx for putting in the hours we appreciate all the info you give.
