Dylan Johns (Basketball 2013)

  • ESPN updated with him being a commit to LSU. He is a 6'11" kid playing in England but from Sugarland Tx.

Do yall know anything about this?

  • Just saw this come across. Jones has apparently gotten a verbal commit from Dylan Johns from Trent Internationale School (Texas). 6-11 kid who has only been playing basketball the past four years. He will enroll in December.

  • What does this do the scholarship counts in terms of the 2013 class? Does this mean we have one less to offer, or does it virtually guaranty a little more attrition from the current roster?

  • this december, can he play in the spring

  • Im starting to think the same thing. Obviously we lose Tuba, Carmouche, and Ludwig but this class already as 5 guys and we are still looking good for Martin.

That is true. Not sure if he will be really ready to play come January, but I assume as soon as he enrolls he can use his Freshman year. That could actually be huge help to this years team. To adda 6'11" guy for SEC play would be very big for us.

Jerry Meyer (national 247 analyst for basketball) told me this went down last night. Meyer saw him at the Reebok camp and will have a story tonight with his reactions as well as Johns'.

Couple notes from Meyer via text: "Skilled. Finesse player. Face up player. Very thin."

Well skilled is good. I can handle finesse. And honestly face up is very okay for me. Looks like a good pickup. Im really interested in the story. Thanks for the incite Shea!

  • And Shea, do you know if he will be able to play this spring? Or will he have to wait till next season? Could be a huge pickup for some Forward/Center depth.

  • I just called his HS head coach and left a message. Hoping to hear back from him soon.

Can't wait to hear. Just realized all 5 of our recruits are out of state and 4 are from Texas. Just need to add the 1 guy from Louisiana and I will be more than happy with the recruiting this time around.

  • From everything I've heard reported on Dylan, he is back in London right now. He is not playing basketball this fall, but he will train with his high school team. He must have already graduated or has enough credits to get to LSU. He will be able to join the team and be eligible to play immediately so if Jones wants him to play, we will have another 6'11" of finesse center to use. Could be a nice combo with Job3. Really excited about this pickup and could be the difference in a couple of games this year.

  • As already described Johns is long and thin. Not a banger or physical rebounder, but a finesse face up big with a good shooting touch. Offensively he is skilled enough to help right away, but not sure if physical enough for the defending/rebounding aspect of the game right now.

This is a botched story from ESPN.

This 19 y/o kid is from Great Britain and, apparently, played in leagues in England and Spain.

TOS reports this kid never attended Trent International School in Houston - he went to a BB camp there.

Thanks for the insite Jerry. When you look at LSU's team, even if he isnt quite there physically for defense, he will be a big help to a team that really needs help down low. I dont see the SEC being a league filled with big physical centers, especially after the NBA draft this past year took away a few, but having a big body that we can put in to give JOBIII a rest is much needed.

Is it still thought that he will be able to start this season in December or will he have to wait till next season?

Okay. This makes more sense seeing that he is in England right now. If he was in HS then I'd expect him to be playing or at least in school. I would imagine it would help his case for starting in December. I wonder if we can get him to move to Baton Rouge sooner than later and have some possible out of practice coaching from Jones. I don't know the NCAA rules about something like that, but getting him ready to play should be something we look into.
