LSU's next basketball coach

  • Who do you guys want or think we will hire. I keep hearing about the head coach from North Texas. I don't follow college basketball very close, so I don't know how good this guy is. Any insight guys

  • Im not on the Johnny Jones train, I think we need a home run hire and quit settling for mediocry in basketball. Personal I think Tim Folyd would kill it here, knows the area good from UNO days. I know he got busted at USC but i think they used the basketball program more as scapegoat to help getting the football team a lesser punishment. Also Scott Drew is a great recuriter, the guy from VCU, JOSH PASTNER, MEMPHIS HEAD COACH, Pittsburgh head coach, and Wichita head coach
We need someone who is a big name and knows how to recruit.

I hope we get a home run hire, that's just the guy I read in the paper today

  • Of the names most often mentioned, I think Drew, Pastner, Dixon and Smart are all unrealistic, and Jones is not the right guy. Floyd would be a great fit IMO. I expect it will not end up being someone out of that list, though.

It's been reported Aleva will not hire any with sanctions except Johhny Jones because his was 15 years ago and has been clean since. Eddie Sutton son is the new name because of his ties with Nike. I think it will be Jones if Pastner and a few others price them selves out of a job. We need a homerun hire but someone who can understand the culture of LA. Trent was thaught of as a homerun hire but ne never could get with the culture of our great state or recruit.

  • I am hoping its Pastner.

I wish it was Drew but there is no chance because of all the sanctions

  • Baylor's sanctions are nothing. The NCAA investigated for three years and all they found were phone calls and texts (not nearly as bad as what they found in the McCarthy-Hicks case, for example). If that was really all that was going on, Drew is way behind the college basketball cheating curve. Word is the NCAA is unlikely to give any more sanctions in addition to the school's self-imposed penalties, so there won't be any postseason or TV bans, and Drew has already served his own personal time.

Regardless, I just think it's highly unlikely that Drew would leave Baylor for LSU, given the respective states of the two programs (same with Pastner at Memphis).

Also, if Alleva really is hellbent on not hiring anyone with any history of NCAA improprieties, that is a big mistake IMO. That stuff needs to be considered on a case-by-case basis for each candidate.

  • Lot more realistic than Bama's list when their last coach was fired. I hope for a coach that has been successful for several years not the hot name this year that had one good tourny run.

  • The newest name in the mix is Lehigh head basketball coach Dr. Brett Reed from Lehigh. Not sure how I feel about this but they sure played well in the tourney. They defeated Duke.

#LSU AD Joe Alleva met with #Pitt coach Jamie Dixon today in Atlanta about men's basketball job. #collegehoops. http://bit.ly/HCT7up

Turns out it was not with Jamie Dixon
