Bealoved Brown talks LSU decision

For many LSU fans, Bealoved Brown is a familiar name because of her brother, 2014 five-star Texas safety Tony Brown.

Bealoved Brown, the older sister of 2014 DB Tony Brown, will run track for LSU

That will likely soon change.

Brown, one of the most decorated young sprinters in the country, had her pick of the litter for college choices, from Texas to Texas A&M to LSU.

Though it took multiple campus visits and lots of hours on the phone with college coaches, Brown said her decision was an easy one.

"I had been wanting to go to LSU since I was in the 7th grade," Brown said. "And my dad promised me a purple-and-gold Mustang if I committed to LSU. Once he recovers, that will be coming for me."

Brown's father suffered a stroke last August, and he has been hospitalized since, leaving Bealoved and Tony with much more on their plates than sports, which has become a place of refuge for the Ozen High siblings.

"Every time I see him, things are getting better, but it's still a battle," Brown said. "Track has been a way for me to keep my mind off things, but it was also where my dad and I had our biggest relationship. I love getting out there and competing, but not having him there, it's not the same.

"But it's all a bigger drive for me to push harder and work harder. I want to finish for my dad now."

Brown said last Wednesday's announcement for the Tigers was "like a dream come true."

"It's like a fairy tale for me," Brown said. "With the experience I went through and the entire recruiting process, I almost want to write a book.

"Just going there to LSU and meeting the people and seeing the campus, I will never forget it. Every school that I went to, I could find little things that I didn't like. At LSU, there was nothing I didn't like.

"I started talking with Coach Shaver a lot after I went up there my junior year, and I've been loving LSU since. I decided to go ahead and commit because coaches kept calling me, and it was beginning to get overwhelming. They talked about girls committing and getting scholarships, and I wanted to lock up a spot."

Brown plans to sign with the Tigers in April, officially putting an end to her recruitment process.

"My mom wants me to sign and do a big Mardi Gras-themed party after basketball season," Brown said. "She wants me to be relaxed after the season, and hopefully we can go into the playoffs and get to state. If so, my plan is to do it in April."

With big sister now on board with LSU, where does that leave little brother as the recruiting calendar flips to the 2014 class?

"I know Tony's going to have all the pressure on him now that I decided, so I feel for him on that," Brown said with a laugh. "My decision is one I feel good about, and I wanted to sit it out for a while and see where Tony's head was at and what my mom thought. The more I thought about it, the more my head hurt.

"Why not go to my dream school? So I went ahead and decided on LSU.

"I know Tony likes LSU, and my family feels good about my decision. I know he will make the right decision for him and feel good about it."
