Miles said Copeland practiced on Wednesday
Below are tidbits from Wednesday night's Les Miles press briefing following LSU's third practice during Florida game week.
***** Miles started his press conference by saying that preparations have been good for Florida this week. He said the intensity and the effort were the best he has seen from the team all season. Miles touched on it in detail, which several players have discussed, and he said there is that noticeable difference in the intensity and focus that he is seeing from the team this week. Miles finished the presser by saying the team now understands that it must play four quarters of football, something he says they haven’t been able to do recently.
***** The biggest news out of the press conference is that fullback J.C. Copeland fully participated in practice today and took almost all of the first team reps. Miles said he is expected to play on Saturday, which is certainly good news for the Tigers' offense. Copeland suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the win over Towson last weekend.
***** Miles said the Florida front four are very strong and fast and have the ability to put a lot of pressure on the quarterback. He expects the offensive line to be tested, but he is confident in their abilities against Florida.
***** With regards to the Mathieu situation and what was said on Tuesday (Miles told Scott Van Pelt on ESPN radio that Mathieu's story may have a happy ending at LSU, hinting he would return to the team in 2013), Miles said on Wednesday that he looks forward to Tyrann working towards his degree, but that at this point he is focused entirely on the team he is going to put on the field this week. Nothing's going to come out from the LSU side on this - one way or the other - until after the season.
***** Expect freshman linebacker Kwon Alexander to once again get a majority of snaps in the base defense this weekend as Miles said he expects Florida to keep them in a 4-3 defense for most of the game. He also said Luke Muncie will have an opportunity to get some playing time this weekend in certain situations. Muncie has been battling some health issues in recent weeks.
